Sift Terms of Use

These terms are between you and Iosvisual — one independent developer, who makes Sift. By downloading or using Sift you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Sift is distributed through the App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement also applies. Where these terms and Apple’s standard EULA disagree, Apple’s EULA wins. You can read Apple’s Standard EULA in full.

Sift is a tool for recording what you spend and seeing patterns in it. It is a notebook that does arithmetic. It is not a bank, it does not hold or move money, and it cannot make a payment.

You may use Sift for your own personal, non-commercial purposes on devices you own or control.

Sift’s figures reflect what has been entered into it, whether by you, by importing a CSV, by reading a receipt, or by connecting Apple Wallet. It has no view of your actual bank balance and does not reconcile against it.

Automatic features — reading a receipt, guessing a category, cleaning a merchant name, detecting a subscription — are best-effort and will sometimes get it wrong. Everything is editable for that reason. Please check anything that matters.

Some features require Sift Pro, an auto-renewing subscription. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.

Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion of it is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial.

You can manage or cancel the subscription in Settings on your iPhone, under your Apple Account, at any time. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue a refund even when we would like to.

Prices may change. An increase will not be applied to your existing subscription without notice and your consent, in line with Apple’s rules.

The Coach answers most questions on your device. Questions that need an opinion are sent to a cloud AI provider, as described in the Privacy Policy.

The service included with Sift Pro is rate-limited and shared between everyone using the app, so it may be temporarily unavailable. You may add your own API key instead, in which case you are responsible for that provider’s charges and bound by their terms.

AI answers are generated text. They are not verified, not guaranteed, and not advice.

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source of the app, except where law expressly permits it.
• Work around the subscription, or use the app with a modified or jailbroken StoreKit environment to obtain paid features.
• Abuse the included AI service — for example, automating requests or using it for anything other than questions about your own spending.
• Use Sift to break the law.

Sift is made by one person, in their own time. We will keep it working and fix what we can, but we cannot promise the app, the included AI service, or this website will always be available, or that any particular feature will exist forever.

Features that depend on Apple — Apple Wallet transactions, Apple Intelligence, speech recognition, widgets — depend on your device, your region, and Apple’s own availability.

Sift is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for financial losses arising from decisions you made using Sift.

Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Sift in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights, and nothing in these terms takes them away.

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for Sift. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; beyond that, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Sift.

We are responsible for addressing any claim that Sift fails to conform to legal requirements, or any third-party claim that Sift infringes intellectual property rights. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

You may stop using Sift at any time by deleting it; cancel any subscription separately through Apple. We may end your right to use the app if you materially break these terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your own country.
